Bio
Dr. Karen Wilkinson hosts over 35 years of Communication experience across corporate, government, and academic environments. Currently, Wilkinson serves as the Associate Dean of Communication at Southern New Hampshire University’s Global Campus. Her professional interests include branding, digital media, online higher ed, public policy, public relations, and the continuous evolution of contemporary communications. Research interests involve AI, APA, badging, curriculum design, gamification, learning theory, peer review, student empowerment and persistence, and the integration of educational technology via interactive learning.
Wilkinson holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology (U of SC), an M.A. in English, Technical and Professional Communication (ECU), and a B.A. in Community Studies, Media Literacy (UMASS, Boston). Certifications include Certified Professional Coach (ICF certified), LEAD Certification (U of V), Municipal/County Government Administration (UNC Chapel Hill), and Intelligent Heart for Professors (Pacific Institute). In 2022, Wilkinson presented ePortfolios at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) National Conference, and in 2024, presented her doctoral research at AAC&U in support of integrating learning theory and ed tech to create student confidence and empowerment via a collaborative community of learners. She published her doctoral research in Online Learning, the official journal of the Online Learning Consortium, and presented at the fall SCAET (South Carolina Association of Educational Technology) conference in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
