About Zoe

Bio

I am a journalist, filmmaker and writer based in London – I was previously based in Nairobi for ten years. I have reported extensively on humanitarian crises and human rights abuses, insecurity and migration, energy and technology, public health and the environment/climate change, and I am interested in the confrontations and impacts that result from the intersection of these forces. I have worked – usually as lead shooting producer/director – on multiple investigative documentaries for international broadcasters including the BBC, AppleTV+, Channel 4 and CBS, that have won awards including two BAFTAs, an Amnesty Media Award and the Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling, as well as received several Emmy nominations. The long read I wrote profiling the scientists in Botswana who first profiled the Omicron Covid variant won Feature of the Year at the 2022 British Association of Science Writers Awards. As a print and broadcast journalist, I reported from across the continent from a Nairobi base for leading international outlets, covering major news events as well as food insecurity, climate events. energy sources across the continent, agricultural shifts and public health. I coordinated a significant reporting project on neglected tropical diseases for the Huffington Post and produced video and other content for a range of non-profits including Human Rights Watch, UN Environment, the Earth Institute at Columbia University and her former employer International Crisis Group. While in Nairobi, I served for two years as Chair of the Foreign Correspondents' Association of East Africa (now the IPAEA). In an unlikely diversion, I also executive and co-produced a romantic comedy that was the first Zimbabwean film to be acquired by Netflix. I grew up between the U.K., Australia and Zimbabwe, and I also have Polish and Irish heritage.
