Simon Chan

Architect, Educator/Teacher

Simon is a registered architect (Hong Kong, Canada) and an educator with over 25 years of international experienc. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto and a Master of Design from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His career spans practice, education, and leadership in the architectural community. Simon has delivered a number of major projects across Asia and North America, including the award-winning M+ Museum and the revitalization of the Hang Seng Bank Headquarters in Hong Kong, as well as the Shenzhen Natural History Museum, Hangzhou Winland Center, and Shangri-la Center in Ulaanbaatar. His work has been recognized with international design awards, including the HKIA Medal of the Year and MIPIM Awards. Deeply committed to architectural education, Simon is a lecturer at the Hong Kong Design Institute and has taught at leading institutions including the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Chu Hai College. He regularly serves as a critic, juror, and accreditor for degree programs and design competitions, and is active in professional institutes including serving as a Council Member, Chair of the Board of Education, and Chair of the Board of Practices at the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, a Board Member at the Hong Kong Architects Registration Board, a Director at the Hong Kong Architecture Center and represented Hong Kong at ARCASIA and the International Union of Architects committees. Simon’s thought leadership extends to organizing and speaking at conferences, including chairing the HKIA Annual Conference and contributing to international forums on design, industry trends, and skyscrapers. He has published research on urban development and placemaking and has been featured in media such as CNN and RTHK. As a co-curator of TEDxHKDI 2025, Simon brings a passion for fostering dialogue at the intersection of humanity and technology within the design community.
