Peter Colohan

Peter Colohan is a creator of new partnerships for the public good. He is social scientist with expertise in history, economics, and good governance, and technical expertise in environmental science and technology. Peter works in Washington, DC. After a 16 year career in federal service with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), he now works for the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a private operating foundation dedicated the effective use, taxation, and stewardship of land. The foundation is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and conducts programs in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, and Europe. From 2018 to 2021, Peter was the first director of the Internet of Water, a project he brought to the Institute from Duke University, which is designed to make the internet smarter about water by developing metadata protocols and knowledge graphs for water, land, climate, and related socio-economic data. He is interested exploring how this system fro developing ethical AI for climate, land, and water management. He is currently working on a range of new partnerships for the foundation around nature-based solutions and other efforts that leverage science and technology and creative financing for projects relating to climate, land, housing, and water. Peter also serves on the board of The Walden School, the summer camp that teaches children personal growth and creative collaboration through immersive music training.
