About Stephanie
Bio
Dr. Steffi Diem is an experimental plasma physicist and fusion engineer working to turn the power of the stars into a practical, abundant energy source on Earth. A professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she leads the Pegasus tokamak experiment, where her team develops innovative, compact technologies aimed at making fusion energy more affordable and scalable.
Beyond the laboratory, Dr. Diem brings together scientists, engineers, and policy experts to explore the broader impacts of fusion—from economic opportunity to environmental sustainability and energy equity—helping shape how fusion can be deployed responsibly at global scale.
From advising global energy strategy as the first U.S. Science Envoy for Fusion Energy, speaking at the White House on the promise of fusion, and more recently testifying to Congress on the technology challenges of fusion, her work sits at the intersection of science, society, and imagination. Because solving fusion isn’t just about creating energy—it’s about shaping the future of how we live.
