studying medicine... to "treat other people as teleological ends in themselves, with the dignity that any rational agent deserves". To a lot of people that won't make sense, so just let me quote nicomacean ethics instead "the end of ethics is action not knowledge", but to anyone who has studied Kantian Deontology, that will sound awfully reminiscent of the second formulation of the categorical imperative, but isn't that the beauty of practical philosophy? Whilst epistemologists go round and round in unfalsifiable circles, arguing whether idealism or indirect realism is "the truth". In the shadow of populist debate, there is that garden of philosophy that does not concern itself with petty squables of sounding clever, but rather concerns itself with what is good, what is important and what is true.

As Kierkegaard says "what is truly great is equally accessible to all". Greatness is not defined by our accolades that are so often the result of our environment, rather the introspective self-mastery we cultivate throughout our lives. In this regard a farmer can transcend the greatness of a king, the ascetic can transcend the greatness of the extravegant, and as a result our senses often fail at detecting greatness. Perhaps think twice about passing judgement on a person, when that which is great is so often concealed within the heart.
