I am about amplifying the voices and stories of people who are unseen, unheard - and rarely asked. It’s what StoryCorps is all about. Our Airstream trailer with a soundproof listening booth, where more than 600,000 people have come to share their stories (the ones on NPR that make you cry every Friday), is still on the road after 20 years. StoryCorps’ mission is to help us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all - one story at a time. And now we’re bringing together strangers with different political views to talk to each other about their lives, not politics. We are seeing the transformative power of One Small Step. Before joining StoryCorps, I was Vice President for News and Civic Dialogue at WHYY in Philadelphia, and Managing Editor at the Philadelphia Inquirer, where I led the paper to a Pulitzer Prize in criticism. My work in journalism was focused on establishing new norms and practices in newsrooms to build trust and meaningful, sustainable connections with communities we served.
