Bio

Professor Abdoulaye Diabaté’s (speaker) agent at TED. I am a communications and public affairs expert with 20 years of experience in international development, agriculture, food systems, and public health. I am multilingual (native in English and French and fluent in Spanish and Portuguese) and thrive in multicultural environments. I am a professional trainer and lecturer in communications strategy, with a specialization on teaching sustainability and crisis communications. I'm interested in issues around representation of diversity, story-telling on Africa, communicating about environmental and social justice issues and designing responsible and ethical communications campaigns. At Target Malaria, I lead a team across Africa and Europe developing award-winning science communication projects to strengthen stakeholder engagement for gene editing technologies to fight malaria. We develop responsible, ethical and dignified communications strategies to explain gene drive technology. Our culturally-appropriate communications tools reach our diverse audiences from villagers in rural communities in Africa to global policy makers in multilateral negotiations on synthetic biology.
