Mostly stumbling through life. Ended up in Iraq after the first Gulf War as a documentary filmmaker right after school. Was a broadcast journalist for a long time, including being an executive producer of the national CBC tv news in the years after 9/11. Was the original executive producer of “Dragons’ Den” and helped launch “Shark Tank” which launched me into a number of years in reality tv formats - mostly to do with politics and business. Highlights included a show I created that put politicians in dirty jobs, and another that had former leaders judge youthful politicians that had Canadian, German, French and Bulgarian versions. In 2016 I helped a friend, Gord Downie, launch his final major project “Secret Path”, which was a book, live show and animated film. It became one of the most important projects at the time in helping settler Canada wake up to the genocidal legacy of residential schools - and I helped launch a new national charity, the Downie Wenjack Fund, which is dedicated to education. My company, based in Toronto, Antica Productions, makes films, series and podcasts. It’s also a partner with a new company we helped found in London, called Telltale. We work with broadcasters, platforms and not-for-profits. Recent titles include our ongoing series on German Jewish history, “Exile”, with Mandy Patinkin for the Leo Baeck Institute, “This Being Human”, a weekly show focussed on the arts for the Aga Khan Museum, and “Educating Daisy”, a comedy books show with Daisy May Cooper for Audible. Also coming out this fall is a four part TV series with author Tanya Talaga on residential schools, and I’m a supervising producer on a four part banger of a TV series on the Tragically Hip for Amazon Prime.

Podcasts, film, music, politics and culture in general. Specifically doing a lot of pleasure reading in history and science - and learning about the UK where I’m doing more work.

Is it okay to say I’m more in listening mode these days? I’ve spent a lot of my life helping craft and push ideas and stories; I’m reaching the stage where I’m not sure I know that much. Epistemic humility might be the best description.
