Bio

Catherine Stewart is a freelance writer, director and choreographer working in live and recorded media with a passion for empowering people through creative arts experiences. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Leeds (Bretton Hall) with a BA (Hons) in Theatre and Performance [2:1]. During her studies she was awarded the White Rose Scholarship for Enterprise for her work in developing sustainable creative economies. Subsequently she has worked with The West Yorkshire Playhouse, DanceBase - the national center for dance, Impact Arts and The Federation of Scottish Theatre in both creative and administrative roles including fundraising, programming and as an artist liaison. Since relocating to New Hampshire in 2012 from her native Scotland, United Kingdom she has worked with a variety of arts organisations including Arts in Reach, Winnipesaukee Playhouse, Neoteric Dance Collaborative and New Hampshire Theatre Project, alongside developing her own practice in theatre and film. As an advocate for emerging artists and the creation of new work she has developed a variety of opportunities including The Peer Group, a support organisation for creative artists in all disciplines, and Tiny Mayhem Performance Lab, an innovation hub for the creation and production of contemporary performance. She was the winner of the 2017 30 Pages in 30 days competition by Prescott Park Arts Festival. Recent works include At The Table (2015) produced by 3S Artspace, and She Will Lead (2016) produced by New Hampshire Theatre Project. In 2017 she was commissioned to write an adaptation of H.G Wells The Time Machine for New Hampshire New Project, supported by Heinemann publishing. She has been the Managing Editor of The Independent Magazine, previously Independent Film and Television Monthly, as well as a contributor to numerous media outlets discussing global cinema, gender in film and innovative approaches to media creation.
