Amanda Jo Hobson

Amanda Jo Hobson, Ph.D. (they/she) is a scholar, practitioner, educator, and activist focused on issues of social justice and equity in higher education, including work in trauma-informed care, gender, racial, and (dis)abilities justice, as well as transformative justice. Their scholarly work centers on gender and sexuality within popular culture, most frequently using monsters and the monstrous, describing their work and presentations as using pop culture and media as a bridge to help folx better understand social justice issues. She regularly has taught classes in gender studies and museum studies. She is the co-editor with U. Melissa Anyiwo of Gender in the Vampire Narrative (2016), Gender Warriors: Reading Contemporary Urban Fantasy (2018), Queering the Vampire Narrative (2023). They also serve as the Vice President for Diversity, Outreach, and Inclusion for the Popular Culture Association and as the Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
