Bio

Dionne Delli-Gatti is an accomplished environmental leader with a diverse background. She served as North Carolina's Secretary of Environmental Quality, appointed by Governor Roy Cooper in February 2021. Following a political rejection by the State Senate, she was subsequently named the state's first Clean Energy Director. Delli-Gatti holds a B.A. in environmental geology from Wright State University and an M.S. in environmental science from the University of North Texas. Her impressive career includes roles as the Director of Southeast Climate and Energy at the Environmental Defense Fund, a Congressional and Governmental Liaison at the Atlanta EPA Regional office, and an environmental specialist with Turner Collie & Braden, Inc. Currently, Dionne is focused on implementing innovative and equitable community engagement strategies at the Environmental Defense Fund, with a particular emphasis on community-driven solutions to address the impacts of petrochemical operations on frontline communities. She is dedicated to leveraging EDF's resources to support community-led initiatives. Previously, Delli-Gatti led the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, working closely with Governor Cooper to advance climate change policies, transition the state to clean energy, and ensure an affordable and sustainable energy future for all. Her achievements include negotiating comprehensive bipartisan climate and clean energy legislation and spearheading initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Dionne's commitment to environmental advocacy is underscored by her notable contributions, including three Bronze Awards and a National Notable recognition during her six years at the Environmental Protection Agency's Southwest Regional office.
