Bio
Dr. Synthia Michelle Doaks is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Northwestern State University in Louisiana where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She furthered her education at Webster University on Merritt Island/Patrick Air Force Base receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida with a Doctorate Degree in Executive Educational Leadership.
While in Milwaukee, Dr. Doaks was a Mutual Fund Trader at Robert W. Baird, Incorporated and a Trust Vault Manager at U.S. Bank until her relocation to Florida in 2006. She worked as a grant accountant, accounting supervisor, adjunct business instructor, and tenured Assistant Professor at Brevard Community College/Eastern Florida State College. She entered the non-profit world one month before the pandemic - February 2020. As the Director of The HUB at Endeavour Elementary, A Community Partnership SchoolTM, she led a team that increased access to healthcare, including dental, vision, medical, and mental health, to the students and families of Endeavour, as well as the surrounding community. She created a system of taking students to their medical appointments, resulting in hundreds of students receiving needed medical procedures, glasses, and cleanings/exams - 19 students receiving major dental surgery. Through a collective impact model, she coordinated a team that is coined “The Real Tooth Fairies of Brevard”, with members from Children’s Home Society/Community Partnership Schools, Space Coast Health Foundation, Brevard Health Alliance, Delta Dental, and Viera Pediatric Dentistry. She was a key taskforce member of the team that was awarded a HRSA Grant to establish the first school-based health center in Brevard Public Schools. Brevard Health Alliance is now on the campus of Endeavour Elementary as of the Fall of 2022. The HUB also provided monthly parenting meetings, leading to increased parent involvement. In addition, The HUB provided monthly resource bags filled with information about the resources in the community, coupled with bags of non-perishable foods and a box of fresh produce. Lastly, The HUB at Endeavour provided after-school tutoring, as well as an award winning, State -replicated, 2021 STEAM summer camp, all free of charge to families. In January 2022, Dr. Doaks accepted the charter directorship of Elevate Brevard. Family Promise of Brevard serves as the backbone non-profit for this community initiative. Elevate Brevard is a collaboration of community partners working together to elevate the lives of Brevard residents by increasing their access to postsecondary educational opportunities and sustainable employment. Elevate Brevard coordinates the means that justify the ends – stronger individuals, stronger workers, stronger families, and a stronger workforce here in Brevard. Elevate Brevard now has a classroom and three office spaces in the renovated Firehouse in Cocoa, bringing services closer to the area in most need in Brevard County – Cocoa 32922.
Dr. Doaks sits on the Board of Directors for Brevard Health Alliance and the Academic Anglers. She also sits on the Advisory Board for Sustainable Workplace Alliance and Space Coast Health Foundation’s Dental Taskforce. She enjoys reading, researching, and writing, in addition to fishing, camping, kayaking, and “anything basketball”. She is the mother to three strong, intelligent, beautiful daughters, and a grandmother to two gifted grandsons.
“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” Denzel Washington
I'm passionate about
being a broker who connects residents to resources, people to programs, and investors to initiatives. I am a bridge to assist opportunity populations from poverty to prosperity by guiding them to programs that will assist in breaking barriers to their potential and in closing skill gaps through post secondary education and locating employment that will reap living wages.
An idea worth spreading
“You need to walk the sidewalks in order to find the roses growing from concrete.”
“Your community is only as strong as the zip code in the most need.”
Part of the solution to increase parents’ involvement in their child’s academic career is for employers to allow parents to video conference for 30 minutes per week, from a break room at their place of employment.
