Bio

Josh Silverman is an entrepreneurial executive who has built and run some of the world's most loveld global consumer technology companies, at every stage from founder, to hyper-growth to massively scaled. He has successfully led companies across a range of industries, including Media, Marketplaces, Communications and Financial Services; based in both the US and Europe. Most recently, Josh was the President of the US Consumer Business for American Express. He ran the largest business unit in the company (>$10B in revenues), reporting to CEO Ken Chenault, responsibile for the US consumer card and global consumer travel businesses. During his tenure, revenues and profits grew at more than double the rate of the market, despite an unprecedented level of competition and regulation. Previously Josh was the CEO of Skype. During his tenure, Skype added more than 300 million users, doubled revenues and tripled profits, while growing to account for 25% of the world’s international calling minutes. Mr. Silverman was voted first runner-up for “CEO of the Year” in the 2010 TechCrunch awards. Prior to Skype Josh served as CEO of Shopping.com, held senior executive roles at eBay and was Co-Founder and CEO of Evite, which he led from inception through its sale to IAC. Earlier in his career Mr. Silverman served on the staff of Senator Bill Bradley, and as a management consultant with Booz-Allen & Hamilton. Josh is active in many civic ventures, including serving as Chairman of ScriptEd.org, and as a member of the Stanford Business School Management Board and the Council on Foreign Relations. Josh holds a BA (Magna Cum Laude) in Public Policy from Brown University, and an MBA from Stanford, where he was class Co-President and an Arjay Miller Scholar.
