Bio
Habiba is a Senior Associate with RMI’s Africa Energy Program. She currently is working to deliver 220MW of utility-connected solar minigrids in Nigeria. She also sits on the TED Future Forum’s Vision Council. Prior to RMI, Habiba was a consultant with BCG.
Habiba holds a PhD in Energy Systems Planning from the Centre of Environmental Policy at Imperial College London. Her research involves building energy systems optimisation models to understand how electricity systems need to transition to deliver the Paris Agreement. She has published many high-impact journal articles on low-carbon energy transitions and co-authored two books for the Royal Society of Chemistry. She also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford.
In previous roles, she has advised the UK’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and contributed to the report underlying the UK government’s adoption of a 2050 net-zero target. She also chaired the Institution of Chemical Engineers’ Future Energy Leaders group and sat on the board of the organisation.
