Bio

Emily Chong is a psychotherapist in private practice in Berkeley, CA. As a multicultural first generation immigrant, her therapy practice was born out of the healing and lessons from her own experience of living across many worlds. Her clients often find themselves feeling stuck between places, cultures, career choices, life decisions and relationships. Although everyone’s story is unique, she finds that a common feeling is one of disconnection; disconnection from a sense of purpose, a loved one, community, or even just from oneself. Her work is about helping clients process the experiences in their lives, integrate and make meaning from them, break negative patterns, and recreate connection in areas that have been lost. Prior to becoming a therapist, Emily held leadership positions in the social impact space in New York. She was the Co-Founder of NationSwell Studio and on the founding team of Catchafire.org and OneFineStay NYC. Emily is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. She holds a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and trained extensively as a relational and psychodynamic therapist at the Golden Gate Integral Counseling Center. Additionally, Emily completed somatic training with the Hakomi Institute and the Couples Center in Berkeley. Emily is trained in the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique under Bob Roth and integrates a Buddhist and mindfulness based approach to therapy.

I'm passionate about

Psychology, relationships, couples, community building, strength training, the outdoors, AI for mental health

An idea worth spreading

All roads lead back to trauma. If we want to heal our society and our people, we need to create the circumstances so that parents can provide consistent emotional attunement for their kids. So instead of asking “what’s wrong with you?”, we need to be asking the question “what happened to you?”. Early adversity in childhood is the greatest crisis to human health. I’m psyched about the potential for AI to scale therapy and offer access to all humans who need it.
