Alexandre Pereira was appointed SVP & Global CIO in October 2011, responsible for Information Technology for all VALE business lines (Iron Ore, Nickel, Coal, Copper, Fertilizer, Logistics and Corporate functions) in the 37 countries where VALE operates. In July 2009, Alexandre was appointed to the role of Head of Global IT Services for VALE, with oversight of all infrastructure and application services worldwide. In February 2007, he was appointed to the global role of VP & CIO at VALE INCO, headquartered in Canada, where was responsible for IT strategies, projects and operations around the world. With a passion for continuous improvement, Alexandre is a global leader recognized for his leadership skills, strategic vision, good humor, capacity for delivering results and wealth of experience in negotiations and people development. Throughout his 22 years of professional experience, Alexandre has held a range of executive positions and gained diverse knowledge bringing together regions into a global structure and working with international initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, strategic plans, IT governance, cross-cultural transformation programs, process reviews, and the implementation of large scale infrastructure, systems and ERP projects. Alexandre holds a degree in Mathematics with emphasis in Computer Science from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He completed Post Graduate Degrees in Enterprise Management (FDC, Brazil) and Computer Networking (UFES, Brazil), and holds an MBA in Business Management (USP, Brazil). In addition, Alexandre has completed senior leadership programs abroad at institutions such as MIT, Boston and IMD, Switzerland.
