Bio

Kriss Deiglmeier has more than 20 years of senior executive experience that spans the business, social enterprise, nonprofit, academic and philanthropic sectors. She is recognized as a pioneer in the field of social innovation and has presented nationally and internationally on social innovation, social entrepreneurship, impact investing, design thinking and public-private partnerships as well as guest-lectured at myriad universities around the world. Kriss is the CEO of Tides Network, a social enterprise that includes the Tides Foundation, Tides Shared Space for Sustainability in San Francisco and New York, Tides Center, The Advocacy Fund, consulting, and impact investing. Before joining Tides, Ms. Deiglmeier was the Founding Executive Director for the Center for Social Innovation (CSI) at Stanford University. She established CSI as a global leader in the emerging social innovation field. In her previous role as Chief Operating Officer for Juma Ventures, Ms. Deiglmeier helped raise the profile of the social entrepreneurship field from a niche market to mainstream. Ms. Deiglmeier has written and published leading thought pieces on social impact. Her most recent publication is a book chapter, “Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation: What’s New, and Why is it Important? in The Real Problem Solvers. Ms. Deiglmeier developed and taught the course, “Social Innovation through Corporate Social Responsibility at Stanford. Ms. Deiglmeier has served on a number of boards and advisory groups. She received her BA from the University of Washington and her M.B.A. from U.C. Berkeley.

A novel solution to a social problem that is more effective, efficient, sustainable, or just than existing solutions and for which the value created accrues primarily to society as a whole rather than private individuals. The Center for Social Innovation has been at the forefront of this emerging field and taken a leadership role in defining the field and solutions. Some centers focus on one particular problem, such as the environment, or one particular sector, such as social entrepreneurs. The Center for Social Innovation takes a broad view, believing that it is important not just to develop singular innovators, such as Muhammad Yunus, nor just specific solutions, such as microfinance, but also to create a process through which innovation thrives and drives social change.
