Bio
I am building and running 'The Climate School' - a new programme to equip employees and transform businesses for the green economy. I work at Kite Insights - a business focused on research-based content, learning and strategic engagement. We believe that business has an urgent responsibility to society and the power to effect global change. Previously I spent 15 years at Google, and launched the 'Google Digital Academy' - helping the digital transformation of hundreds of companies across Europe, Middle East and Africa
Having spent 20+ years helping companies be more digital, in 2021, I decided to switch, and help them be more sustainable. I realised that I had some relevant experience - helping employees learn to innovate with new technologies, helping leaders grasp & deploy new business models, supporting company champions to evolve from 'the expert' to 'the change maker', and engaging senior management to refocus their attention. All these challenges are common to both digital transformation and sustainable transformation - so I'm excited to bring this to what is, for me, a new important, and purposeful space.
Outside of work, I'm also an advisor for charity, social enterprise & startups.
I'm passionate about
Leading teams to drive change, and solve problems that others think are too big or complex to solve!
Education - and how it must change in the coming years.
Being a dad.
Lego.
An idea worth spreading
The Climate School:
Our vision is for each employee, in every role, to be informed and motivated enough to play their part in their company’s response to the climate challenge. We aim to ignite a significant shift throughout businesses in how people think, innovate and act in the workplace, to the extent that everyone can feel a degree of ownership over the contribution they can make, however small.
The Climate School engages employees at 3 levels:
- The Head (providing knowledge)
- The Heart (igniting conscience/commitment)
- The Hands (equipping with tools & ability to act).
..so that employee understands how their role, in their company, in their industry, can be part of a wider climate solution.
The programme includes 4 components that can work independently, or together as a 'transformation toolkit':
EVALUATE:
The 'Climate Action Readiness Assessment' (CARA), evaluates employee engagement with climate on 3 dimensions: The Head, The Heart, and the Hands, and identifies employee segments according to their understanding, commitment to, and ability to act in the workplace. This survey has been designed to fit with the Sustainable Development Goal 13 on Climate - SDG 13 - indicator, and gives real insight into a company's readiness to act on climate.
EDUCATE:
Based on the assessment and on a company’s priorities, we propose tailored training journeys, equipping employees with the knowledge and skills to contribute to their organisation’s transformation. We do this by developing and aggregating the best climate content available - by experts in the field – delivered in engaging digital formats for individuals as well as live workshops, for teams.
ACTIVATE:
Our approach ignites meaningful climate action - we will run 'climate innovation sprints' - to help teams accelerate from an idea to living projects and also give companies access to a network of green-tech climate innovators, who can help turn theory into reality.
ADVOCATE:
Finally, we help companies become industry thought leaders on climate and other planetary issues, supporting with thought leadership, stories and convening coalitions which spur further action in peer companies.
