Bio

A half-Indian/half-Nepalese diplobrat, has grown up, studied, worked and lived in ten countries on six continents and speaks eight languages. This has left Roopak with a sense that he is really from nowhere and everywhere. He started working in advertising at Young & Rubicam Budapest, where he was trained on the Kraft Foods and Danone accounts. A few years later, fed up with yoghurt and chocolate, he decided he wasn’t going to work on anything people bought more than once a year and moved to Ogilvy & Mather Paris to run the Motorola account for Europe, Middle East & Africa, where he was instrumental in managing the development of the Hellomoto campaign. He quit in 2003 to go to back to business school and do a few other things after which he found himself setting up and running Bang Bang Films, a Bombay based media & entertainment company, focused on commercials production as its core business. He has also been a professional trance DJ, performing around the globe from around Europe to South Africa to Goa to Koh Phangan and co-founding and running his own trance label, Procyon Records (Budapest & Paris). Roopak has also acted in a couple of films, holds an MBA from INSEAD in France & Singapore and is addicted to wasabi and several other types of food. He has a penchant for trivia, especially about capitals and flags. He now lives in Bombay with his actress wife, Tara and baby son, Zen, but is trying hard to engineer the possibility for them to avoid the city (and country) between the monsoon months of June and September on a perpetual basis. Currently, he is spending a major chunk of time setting up Bang Bang Films' sister venture, Jack in the Box, which provides brands with complete communication solutions from strategy to creative to deliverable, across a variety of platforms- digital, mobile, traditional... a large part of what it offers is branded content. Although a large part of his life will be dedicated to the marriage of entertainment and communications, he also wants to get into politics and, driven by his passion for international affairs, has distant aspirations of becoming India's Foreign Minister one day.
