About Patrick

I am a…

Concerned citizen, Designer, Entrepreneur, Idea generator, Producer

Bio

As a designer, design manager and design educator, I feel a responsibility to use design as a tool for social innovation and sustainability. Throughout my twenty-year career I have participated and helped educational practicum opportunities in partnership with industry and non-government causes. In doing this I have aided in the management of thousands of hours of pro bono work for causes including: Warchild, Rethink Breast Cancer, Children's Aid Society, Girl Guides and the Canadian Diabetes Association. I hope that the work produced under my charge will inspire my peers to act as agents of change.

I'm passionate about

Design thinking, civic literacy and career coaching.

An idea worth spreading

How can we calculate our 'civic footprint'? Our contribution to our community and the world? I have often asked myself how can I most effectively contribute to positive social change? Answers to date include: 1. Incubate or play a role in communities surrounding people who are already changing the world (or making a significant difference) 2. Influence the agenda of influencers (Individuals and Associations) 3. Encourage others to action their intent (ideally give them tools to do so) 4. Enlist others - collaborate (up and down the experience later) 5. Make it an increasing part of my 'day job'. 6. Continue to learn 7. Delegate (invest in a budget to hire researchers and copy editors) 8. Consult on education curricula
