Bio

I’m Engr. Seyyede Khamsa Asbaghian, PhD Candidate in Soil Science engineering (Soil Biology and Biotechnology)-3rd year at the University of Tehran, Iran, and during all the years of my studies, I have had an effective presence in collective environmental activities with the aim of raising awareness and culture, especially among the youth. One of the achievements of my professional life is the creation of a wide network of young environmental activists and experts in the field of climate change and food security in Iran. Young people who have done impressive work with the support of the Ministry of Sport and Youth of Iran. I believe that the presence of youth in any field, despite the challenges, creates opportunities. I have to highlight an important goal regarding my mission in the scientific community, and that is to educate young people and empower them to deal with climate change. In my opinion, to realize this goal, we need expertise as the first priority and pragmatism, and public belief. Regarding climate change, successfully passing the global climate change leadership course and training (Climate Reality Leadership Corps) under AlGore's supervision (2021); being selected as a young ambassador in the 8 months program of the Global Youth Climate Network, 2022; being a member of the youth group of the D8 countries; attending the consultative meeting of Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), 2022-2025; Attending the World Conservation Conference (IUCN) And finally, chosen to be a young scientist in Iran has given me the experience to have a broad and realistic view of the issue of climate change and food security and to be able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the activities carried out and examine the opportunities and threats (SWOT) to reach good and operational ideas. Recently, I could be selected as IRAN's outstanding delegate in the first youth climate negotiations forum which held in the Baku, Azerbaijan. Also, I was a representative and speaker on behalf of Iran in various scientific conferences and I am a young assistant for international affairs of the Ministry of Sports and Youth of Iran. Combining science and practice as a young doctoral student at the University of Tehran in Iran is definitely one of the important reasons for preparing me to join this impactful community, according to the records of various effective scientific lectures in different countries in the field of environmental science and climate change as a young soil scientist. In addition, I was honored to be selected as Iran's representative at the World Youth Festival in Russia in 2024 and as a full fund participant. Currently, as a representative of Iran's youth, I cooperate with many international organizations, including FAO, etc. In 2023, I was elected as a key member of the World Food Forum and I am the secretary of the Scientific Association of Soil Science and Engineering of the University of Tehran. Also, I am proud that as a young Iranian, I am the coordinating director of the Asian continent and Iran's ambassador to the Model United Nations conferences. As the youngest participant, I was also proud to successfully complete the international course of advanced sports management, Olympic solidarity under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee and with the approval of the President of the International Olympic Committee. I am the director of international affairs of I.R of Iran School Sport Federation and I am proud to be the representative of this federation in international forums. Throughout my life, I have been driven by a deep passion for promoting peace, justice, and understanding across the world. From my earliest days as a young activist to my later roles as a diplomat and humanitarian, I have tirelessly worked to bridge divides, foster dialogue, and create tangible progress towards a more peaceful global community. As I look back on my journey, I am humbled by the challenges overcome and inspired by the positive change that can occur when dedicated individuals come together in service of the greater good. It is my fervent hope that my story will encourage others to likewise step forward, lend their unique gifts, and join the critical work of building a future defined by peace, not war; by compassion, not cruelty; and by the unifying power of our common humanity. Youth are Real Change Makers! Let's make a change together…

I'm passionate about

As a committed researcher, my final objective is to help resolve issues that confront the world through scientific innovation. At the Department of Soil Science, my fellow researchers and I have made reality out of the notion that "health comes from the farm." We developed a new fertilizer blend for cadmium-polluted croplands, reducing the level of the heavy metal below the critical level while raising the yield of potatoes by 30% to over 35 tons per hectare in our research. At the moment, I am spearheading a project that aims to use soil as planet Earth's largest carbon sink to minimize carbon emissions. The future promises exciting results, and I welcome researchers and enthusiasts to be part of this ride. Stay tuned!

An idea worth spreading

Youth diplomacy is more than just a political concept; it’s about giving young people a voice in shaping the world they will inherit. In a time when global challenges demand fresh ideas and empathy, training young diplomats helps prepare a generation that can listen, connect, and collaborate across cultures. These young leaders bring energy, creativity, and hope to international discussions, turning dialogue into real action. By investing in youth diplomacy, we’re not only preparing future policymakers, we’re nurturing bridge-builders who can lead with understanding, compassion, and a genuine desire to make the world a better place.

The TED story

From the soil to the sky! … I do not know what will happen after my death?! I don't want to know what the potter will make from the soil of my body?! But I am very eager for him to make a whistle from the dust of my throat May my throat be cut by the hands of a cheeky and playful child And he pressed his hot tail on my throat one after another (With his tail, he blew a whistle made of soil in my throat) and disturb the sleep of the sleeping ones In this way, break my deadly silence in me...! Seyyede Khamsa, whose name is derived from a Palestinian fighter girl, is the same playful child who seeks to fulfill her dreams in the lush forests and fertile plains of Sabalan mountain slopes. A playful little girl who seeks to learn the foreign languages to communicate with the world from the very beginning, and because she was often present in her father's official meetings, she was looking for a way to untangle and influence the issues around her. In one of the scientific conferences, the scientist who was the speaker, her father's uncle, spoke very attractively, differently and lovingly about soil and its functions in solving the world's challenges; Soil became a problem for her! So attractive, different and lovely! The playful girl in our story made a whistle from the throat of the speaker of that scientific conference, who, ironically, loved his homeland (IRAN) very much, and in the path of her own growth and prosperity, she blew the cry of the green growth of her homeland all over the world, and in this way, she was always the first! Bachelor of Soil Engineering Master's degree in soil chemistry PhD in soil biology And all the unique researches that she had done in the field of soil became bricks for the steps of her scientific progress. Now that playful girl, is a young and proud Iranian scientist, at the United Nations International Women's Day summit... She made the best use of every opportunity in international scientific meetings to introduce the influential women and girls of I.R of IRAN. As soon as she spoke in various international gatherings with her expertise in soil science, with her mastery of the languages of different countries and with her Islamic hijab, she saw the change of look in each and every face of her audience. The fact that they would come to her after her speeches and tell her about the change in their views towards Iran was very valuable to her. its example; This is the sentence of a Dutch scientist who told her after a scientific interview, apart from the scientific perspective, the point that attracted my attention about you was your hijab, because if a person is so loyal to the values of her country beyond its borders, in a serious work and professional environment she will be brilliant, successful and committed as well. Seyyede Khamsa of our story, who has done many services for her homeland due to her expertise in soil science, and by becoming a professional in Taekwondo, keeps her physical energy high, seeks to solve various problems, and has no quiet moment...! The influential girl whose roots of the tree of life grew in the rich soil of Islamic Republic of Iran, this time, she wants to fly to the sky. The sky is an opportunity to fly high The story is, how big of a pigeon are you...! She is Seyyede Khamsa Asbaghian Namini Iranian girl A girl who has been Iran's ambassador in many international events. She believes that, despite all the invitations she has received from prestigious universities in the world, she has her roots in this soil and loves her homeland, I.R of IRAN, passionately.
