About Fulya
I am a…
Educator/Teacher
Bio
I have been working as an IGCSE English teacher at our school for five years and have consistently strived to become an active member of the school community. The idea of organizing a TEDx event was inspired by the students, who have been exposed to TED Talks as part of their lessons since primary school. Their enthusiasm and ambition to bring this event to life have motivated me to support and guide them in any way I can.
I'm passionate about
My academic interests lie mostly in the fields of literature, ELT (English Language Teaching) and implementing international curriculum.
In addition to these, I am very enthusiastic about developments in educational technology so I aim to improve my practice and share my knowledge with colleagues.
Outside the professional context, I like alternative cooking, make-up artistry, reading books, and taking part in community service projects. As for sports, I enjoy swimming, playing basketball and table tennis.
An idea worth spreading
A culture that prioritizes gratitude—whether at home, at work, or in communities—can foster better mental health, stronger relationships, and more positive societal outcomes. Gratitude has been shown to reduce stress, improve physical and emotional health, and strengthen social bonds. It shifts focus away from scarcity to abundance, helping people to find joy in even the smallest moments. For example, starting the day with a gratitude practice, where you take a moment to acknowledge the things you’re thankful for, or creating a workplace ritual of acknowledging colleagues’ contributions.

The TED story
Growing up, I constantly faced the challenge of moving to different schools and cities, often starting over in unfamiliar environments. It was tough, and there were times I felt isolated or unsure of myself. But with each move, I learned to adapt, build resilience, and find strength in the unknown. I discovered that no matter where life took me, I could always overcome the obstacles in my path, as long as I stayed determined and believed in my potential. Through hard work, a positive mindset, and a willingness to embrace change, I achieved my goals—proving that even when the journey is difficult, perseverance and self-confidence can lead to success. My story is a testament to all young people facing uncertainty: no matter how many challenges you face, you have the power to create your own path and reach your dreams.
Things you might not know
Many people don't realize just how passionate I am about makeup and color. I often keep this interest to myself, not because I’m shy about it, but because it’s something I enjoy exploring in my own time. I find so much creativity and joy in experimenting with different shades, textures, and techniques—whether it's playing with bold eyeshadows or blending unique lip colors. It's a form of self-expression for me, and although I don’t always share this side of myself with others, it’s a part of who I am that brings me a lot of personal fulfillment.
