Donna Moffatt

Donna Moffatt is currently the Director of Learning Innovation at Abbotsleigh. This is a PreK-12 role that involves developing professional learning for educators, and implementing curriculum initiatives and projects across the school. She began this position in January, 2015. Donna started at Abbotsleigh as a permanent staff member in 2002 after returning from Singapore where she was the Head of Primary at the Australian International School Singapore. For seven years, she undertook various leadership positions in Abbotsleigh’s Junior School including Year 5 and Year 6 Coordinator. In 2009, she became the Project Manager for the building and establishment of the Early Learning Centre and Transition. This section of the school caters for children from birth to six years of age. Donna continued as the Director of Early Learning until March, 2013 when she took two years’ parental leave. During her time as Director of Early Learning, Donna was responsible for all curriculum and regulatory aspects of Early Learning. One of her focus areas was to develop the philosophical basis of Early Learning within an already existing K-12 school and to look at the transition between Early Learning and Junior School. In doing so, she recognised the similarities between early learning and middle schooling and has since looked to develop the philosophical bases of all sections of the school. Donna is a regular presenter at a variety of forums including national conferences, research symposiums and tertiary courses for mathematics, high potential learners and early childhood education. Over recent years, she has organised and presented at conferences that focus on the learning that matters.With a strong belief in students’ ability to contribute to the learning process, she encourages programs that foster enquiry based learning and creative problem solving. She was part of the organising committee that worked alongside students to hold Abbotsleigh's inaugural TEDX Youth day. Just has been the case for many this year, Donna has been immersed in change management. As the Director of Learning Innovation, she and her team have been responsilbe for moving learning online. She has seen the way in which educators leverage digital technologies accelerate by some five years in the space of one. A change facilitator, Donna sees this as one of the opportunities that has come from unprecedented challenge. An avid reader and nature lover, Donna is reenergised through reading and spending time bush walking and near the water.
