About Michael
Bio
Scientist at heart. BSc Biochemistry (Ottawa U.), PhD Natural Product Organic Chemistry (UBC) and Post-doc Fellowship Medicinal Chemistry (U. Vienna, Austria). Spent 10 years in pharmaceutical R&D (cardiovascular, MS, Alzheimer's) including the largest biotech transaction in Canada (Cardiome-Merck, 2009).
In 2010, founded a digital farming platform called Semios. With a core purpose of helping Nature feed our growing population, Semios helps farmers manage crop risks associated with insects, disease, climate, irrigation and nutrition. The $/acre/year subscription service leverages internet-of- things (IoT), big data and AI to better understand, forecast and pro-actively manage crops year round. With over 100M acres under mgmt across US, Canada, AUS/NZ and EU, we protect over $1T of crop land through improved sustainability practices. Next time you bite into an apple or grab a handful of almonds, rest assured, we got your back! Data-driven farming minimizes the use of chemicals, fertilizers and water, ensuring the best of both worlds: profitability of farms and sustainability of our planet.
