Itzel Morales Lagunes

Itzel Morales Lagunes is a Biochemical Engineer and holds a master's degree in climate change from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland where she studied with funding from the Mexican Science and Technology Council (CONACYT). In 2013, she was trained as a Climate Leader in the Climate Reality Leadership Corps in Chicago, receiving training from former Vice President of the United States and founder of the Climate Reality Project, Al Gore. Since then, Ms. Morales has participated as a mentor in training sessions in Rio de Janeiro, New Delhi, Miami, Denver, and as a speaker in the sessions in Mexico City, Los Angeles, and in the online Global Training. As a Climate Leader, one of her achievements has been the delivery of dozens of conferences about sustainable development, climate change, leadership, and conflict resolution to around 20,000 people. In 2014, due to her community work creating climate change awareness and protecting urban forests, the Government of the State of Campeche, Mexico gave her the Youth Award in the category of Environmental Protection. Ms. Morales was awarded the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship at UC Davis for the 2016-2017 academic year with the funding of the US Department of State. During her fellowship year she had a professional affiliation with the United States Forest Service and the International Center for the Environment at UC Davis for the organization of the International Seminar on Climate Change and Natural Resource Management. In 2019, the State of Campeche recognized her as an Extraordinary Woman for her work promoting climate action in Latin America. She is currently the Climate Leader Engagement Coordinator in Climate Reality Latin America branch where she works organizing 2,000 volunteers in the region.
