About Rita

Bio

Although my job title is associate professor of management, I consider my principle occupation to be an organizational researcher and teacher with my main goal of helping the next generation of leaders, especially my female student leaders, explore new ideas and connect them to opportunities for growth. I also conduct research focusing on change and challenge among individuals and organizations. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal online, and The Atlantic have cited my research work. I also oversee a women’s leadership program at my university. I am passionate about helping college students see their potential and helping them achieve their dreams. I have a special interest in helping those like myself, first generation college students and women from traditional backgrounds, achieve success in the business world. Having been the first and only person in my immediate family to go to college, much less complete three degrees including an MBA and a PhD, I know how education can change the story of a family in a positive way. I came to academics after a two-decade corporate career as a CPA, consultant, and senior financial leader at organizations including PriceWaterhouse Coopers, American Red Cross and Sands Hotel and Casino – Atlantic City. I also served as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Affairs and held leadership positions in several academic associations.

I'm passionate about

Helping great young women be successful. Also helping organizations create great workplaces and a welcoming environment for all.

An idea worth spreading

We all face challenges and many of us wish we could remove challenges from our lives. What if instead of avoiding challenges, we embrace challenges in the workplace and in life? My TEDx talk explores the idea that embracing challenges will not only increase work meaning but can also contribute to optimizing experiences and making life more meaningful.
