Bio

CHRIS SCHMIDT Senior Producer, NOVA Chris Schmidt is an award-winning filmmaker who has worked as executive producer, writer, director and editor with a focus on documentary and non-fiction television programming. He has traveled the world to produce and direct movies and television programs for PBS, Dreamworks Animation, The Discovery Channel, History Channel, National Geographic and others. Recently Chris developed and executive executive-produced the NOVA mini-series Making Stuff, Making Stuff 2 and a two-hour NOVA special, Hunting The Elements – all hosted by David Pogue. In May of 2012 he joined NOVA as Senior Producer and continues to develop, produce and executive produce science documentary films and mini-series for PBS. In a past life, Chris produced and directed several independent films, including Banya the first US-Soviet independent feature film. A native of Chicago, Chris has a B.A. in English Literature from Northwestern University and an M.A. from University of Chicago. He currently resides in Concord, MA.
