Della’s dream is curating the collaborative development of a comprehensive learning portfolio to capture the talents and gifts of each learner, empowering them with dynamic, visible, and audible evidence of their strengths to use on a college application, at a job interview or for the next steps in life. Interwoven, these treasures will form a learning galaxy. Her life's mission is to empower our future. She has served learners through public schools, the private sector and the nonprofit space. Her doctoral research was “Redesigning Professional Learning from a Strengths-Based Perspective.” She's failed forward opening a few small businesses and is attempting it once again with sensAble learning, LLC (2.0.) Currently, she also works as a Teacher on Special Assignment and as a Gifted Education Coordinator.

Gifted Education is the bright spot in our public education system and it can reconstruct a system increasingly defined by its problems into a system that identifies and grows each learner’s gifts and talents. To do this we need to 1) universally consider the identification of each and every child and 2) broaden access to gifted education services through talent development initiatives and talent pool programming. Universal consideration can be done through portfolios that will one become a learning galaxy. To create this galaxy, we need to learn how to preserve sensAble moments, develop universal communication and invent timeless accessibility. SensAble Moments How can we preserve a portfolio of learning experiences that captures all of the senses, including emotions? Universal Communication How can the portfolio be communicated to another who does not use the same language? Timeless Accessibility How can the learning be preserved to be experienced by all in the future? To accomplish the vision of the Learning Galaxy, I seek to pair students with developers to 1) create a platform and 2) design technological tools needed to make it real.

I stumbled upon the TED-Ed Community when I was consulting and working from home. It gave me the opportunity to remain connected with students and educators. Jordan Reeves, the facilitator of the TED-Ed Community, empowered me. As a result, I attended TED Active in 2014, which I often refer to as the best week of my life. Then, I became a TED-Ed Innovative Educator and experienced major impostor syndrome learning alongside a global community of educators. The TED community came into my life at a pivotal moment, and I am forever grateful. I've been hanging around ever since.
