Athlete, Idea generator, Parent, Student

Mário Costa is a sports coach based on Faial Island in the Azores. With a background in sports training and club management, he has spent his career working at the intersection of sport, community, and personal development. Always passionate about the TED format and the power of hearing new perspectives, Mário co-founded TEDxHorta, a licensed TEDx event on Faial Island with the belief that ideas worth spreading don't only come from big cities. They come from islands too.

Projects and ideas that challenge people to question themselves and grow both as individuals and as communities. I believe that the most meaningful change starts with curiosity, and that every community, no matter how small or remote, deserves access to the kind of conversations that spark it.

When each person contributes something to their community in whatever way they can, that community becomes more autonomous, more dynamic, and more resilient. Organizing TEDxHorta is my way of doing that. It's a small act with the potential for a large impact: bringing diverse ideas and perspectives to a small island, and trusting that they will ripple outward.
