Bio

I am an inventor/entrepreneur. I hold several patents in the physiological monitoring space and I am the inventor of the MIOAlpha; world's first accurate, performance level heart rate monitor watch without a chest strap. Recently I led MIO into the acquisition of PAI from the Nobel Prize winning Faculty of Medicine at NTNU. PAI will replace steps as the global standard for activity tracking. Mio Global is a Vancouver based company with a global presence. Before becoming an entrepreneur I worked in high tech for over fifteen years with notable companies such as NCR/AT&T, ORACLE, and TELUS.

I'm passionate about

Science and technology. I love thinking up new ways to apply technology, in particular its application to the optimization and enjoyment of personal fitness and health.

An idea worth spreading

Heart rate is the most valuable piece of data about a person's body. Knowing your heart rate can help you optimize your training and fitness, manage stress levels, reveal your real biological age, warn if you are getting sick, or even predict your probability of a cardiac event within the next two years. But, if heart rate is so important, why is it that so few people actually know how to interpret what it means? That is why Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) the new heart rate based metric MIO acquired from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is so groundbreaking. PAI uses heart rate derived from wearable devices to prescribe the right amount of exercise you need to maximize your life and protect you against all forms of lifestyle disease. Keep your PAI score at 100 and relax!

The TED story

As a resident of Vancouver I couldn't let a TED happening in my own city pass me by. What a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the world's greatest thinkers and futurists. And if I can contribute anything to the TED community at minimum I can offer local travel advice!
