Bio
Ken is the Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Ars Technica. After completing a BA from Indiana University in History and Religious Studies (1997), Ken moved to Cambridge, MA to study religion at Harvard University. Ken founded Ars Technica in 1998 as an escape from his graduate work in Coptology and Gnostic literature. Ken received both an MTS (2000) and later an A.M from Harvard, and is presently completing doctoral work. In recent years, Ken sold Ars Technica to Conde Nast (2008), but he remains as President and Editor-in-Chief. Ken is presently exploring the way readers confer authority on narratives by deploying them in idiosyncratic reconstructions.
I'm passionate about
Technology and the way it's changing our culture, particularly communication and the dissemination of information. I'm also passionate about the ancient Mediterranean, and the religions thereof.
An idea worth spreading
The notion of essence has stood in the way of progress since the time of Plato. Western civilization remains obsessed with dichotomies of oppositional essences and their descriptions, rather than understanding apparent opposites as part of the whole.
Areas of expertise
Ancient History, Ancient Languages, Cloud Computing, Computing Technology, Copyright & Piracy, technology journalism
