Bio
While in college studying music, I got a job at a coffeehouse. I fell in love with coffee, and I've never worked in any other field. I've been a barista, taster, roaster, buyer, and entrepreneur. I was the principal at Counter Culture Coffee, a change-focused coffee company. Now, I lead a project to bring coffee leaders together with scientists, researchers, policymakers and other thought leaders to use coffee to change the world.
I'm passionate about
Using knowledge of culture, science, and trade to benefit human well-being.
An idea worth spreading
I believe that internationally traded craft products- like coffee- can be a powerful way to promote peace, cultural exchange, wealth distribution, and positive connection among people. What if we could connect at the global level, and treat producers everywhere the same way we treat our local farmers?
Areas of expertise
Coffee, food, research, sensory experience, storytelling
The TED story
I came to TED when I was approached to help create the coffee service for the conference. I've never left since.
