Bio

Ann.drummie@gmail.com Bringing executive coaching to young professionals I am a leadership coach who helps young professionals to recognize and reach meaningful goals so they can enjoy greater impact from their work. I initially rose in my career based on technical proficiency - but I realized that I needed to figure out a whole lot more. Leadership was mostly learned "on the job" and through observing the traditional, hierarchical role models around me. I have plenty of stories of stumbling and persisting! Now young professionals have countless videos, podcasts, online courses, and mentoring programs. And they work in companies adopting agile approaches to decision-making and collaboration. And yet...I still hear the same struggles I had. "How do I define my own path when the steps were clearly laid for me until now?" "How do I try a new leadership idea, without fear of making a mistake?" I am motivated to bring executive coaching to an earlier point in careers, to ease frustrations, reduce unnecessary turnover and related costs, and accelerate staff growth. I believe the key to a high-performing organization, is supporting new and transitioning leaders. Fun Facts: • I have degrees in engineering and architecture, and Project Management Professional and Integral Coaching Canada certifications. • I love the built environment and I have worked directly on sports facilities, academic buildings, student housing, railway tracks, and bridges, from vision through opening. • I am an avid curler (the winter Olympics ice sport), golfer, and world traveler.

An idea worth spreading

Why are we still programmed somehow to offer help but reject it when it is offered to us? Even in my yoga class, the first time an instructor whispered, “Can I assist you?” my first reaction was to say no, but of course especially given I was relatively new to the practice I should take all assistance offered, so I consented. And her assistance immediately deepened the experience. Now I look forward to that whisper. What is keeping us from openly acknowledging that our lives will be better if we keep the energy of ‘helping’ regularly flowing between us? Have we distorted the definition of ‘independent’ to the point of extreme self-sufficiency? With some awareness and mindfulness, and open discussion about both sides of ‘help’, perhaps we will all look forward to the whispers.

Things you might not know

People may know me only as a curler - yes the Olympic ice sport. Some only know me as a fellow golfer out for a quiet few hours in the fresh cut grass. Many know me as a project manager for elementary school construction, while some know me as a recreation center specialist. Few know that I love music and enjoy singing and dancing. I’m good at making marble chocolate cheesecake, and even better at sharing it.
