Bio

Jim Foley is the Director of the Center for Leadership at St. Luke's School in New Canaan, CT. The mission of the Center is to help every St. Luke's student develop their own unique abilities to lead and make a difference. Jim grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He earned a degree in Economics from Swarthmore College, where he played and later coached basketball. Jim turned college internships with Prudential Securities and Kidder, Peabody into a career in consulting and pharmaceutical business development, but in 2000 decided to trade a cubicle for the classroom and became a mathematics teacher at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, CT. Along the way he has taught Math and Economics, coached the St. Luke's Varsity Girls Basketball team to their first ever FAA Championship titles, and served as Dean of the Sophomore class. In 2007 Jim was recognized as St. Luke's Teacher of the Year. In 2009 he completed a Masters in Educational Technology at Fairfield University and became the school's first full-time Academic Technology Coordinator, working with upper school faculty on meaningful and innovative ways to integrate technology into students' learning. Jim lives outside of New Haven with his wife and children, and can be found on Twitter @foleysquared.

Learning, Technology, Communication, and Leadership Development

An idea worth spreading

Every child has leadership potential within them, regardless of their personality type, range of ability, or any other factor. It's not necessary to save the world, run for office, or preside over a group in order to be a "leader" - every one of us can find our voice, and make a difference in the things that matter most to us. The key to doing so is to acquire 3 things: a Global Perspective, a Service Orientation, and a set of "TLC Skills" (teamwork, leadership, and communication).
