Fernão Silveira is global public affairs leader for Innovation & STEM Education at The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW) and member of the Global Corporate Reputation team at Dow, based in Midland. Michigan. In this role since May 2011, Fernão develops and leads implementation of the communications strategy to showcase the broader approach to innovation at Dow, interacting with businesses, functions and geographies in order to explore success cases worldwide and ensure messaging alignment throughout the entire company. This is an integrated communications role for both strategy and execution incorporating, but not limited to, media relations, executive communications, social media, web communications, advertising and trade show support. Fernão Silveira is Journalist and Public Affairs professional, graduated in Journalism at Universidade Metodista de São Paulo (São Bernardo do Campo, SP, Brazil) with post-graduation in Public Affairs at Faculdade Cásper Líbero (São Paulo, SP, Brazil) and specialization in Corporate Communication at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (São Paulo, SP, Brazil). Fernão has joined Dow in November 2008, as senior communicator for the Basic Plastics businesses in Latin America. From March 2009 to April 2011, Fernão was member of the Corporate Communication team in Brazil, becoming team manager in July 2010. In this role, Fernão had media relations, internal communication, community relations (management of Corporate Social Responsibility projects), sites communications and other corporate reputation efforts for Dow in Brazil under his responsibilities. Fernão started his career as Journalism intern at Diário do Grande ABC (Santo André, SP, Brazil) in 1999, becoming effective reporter nine months later. From 2000 to 2005, he worked as reporter, senior writer, editor, special projects manager and team leader. In January 2005, Fernão was invited by the Spanish Internet provider Terra Networks to be Content Editor for their LAA headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil. One year later, Fernão joined the Brazilian HR consultancy group Catho (one of the first and most important in Latin America) having the responsibility to structure Media Relations and Communication (internal and external) Departments for the executive consultancy business unit (comprising headhunting and career counseling services). Fifteen months later, Fernão has been invited to lead corporate communication for the entire group, including the operations of the website www.catho.com.br (the main recruiting website in Latin America). At Catho Online, Fernão lead the Communication Department in two awards, one national and one international: ABS Journalism Awards 2007 (with a video report on security at work) and the 5th Interamerican Journalism Contest “Vital Air”, organized by the InterAmerican Heart Foundation (with a report on tobacco and anti-smoking programs).
