Bio
I'm the Arts and Culture Editor of W Magazine. I assign and write major profiles and features for the magazine and blog for our website. For W's 2011 Art Issue, I conceived and commissioned an original work from Ai Weiwei, which the artist created via Skype in New York City because he was under house arrest in his home/studio in Beijing. I'm also the author of Nureyev: His Life, the definitive biography of the Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. In addition, I'm an adjunct professor at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where for five years, I taught the arts journalism seminar. I've written widely on the arts for the New York Times and other publications.
