Rosalynn Johnson

Rosalynn Johnson is the Associate Director for the Veteran and Military Resource Center at the University of Washington Tacoma. She has been with UWT since March 2015. In her role she works closely with UWT’s 18% military-connected student population as they transition to higher education. In addition, she collaborates with the military bases in the region planning on-going projects and events (e.g., Cybersecurity, Leadership Luncheon, and Views on the Pacific Symposia). She also facilitates the partnership between the university, state entities, and community partners in regards to higher education and veterans issues. Roz is also the first point of contact for the UW-U.S. Army War College Fellowship program. In January 2018, she received the Advisor of the Year Award from the Student Veterans of America organization. Roz graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a BS in Chemistry, and received an MS from Texas A&M University in Engineering Systems Management. Upon graduation from West Point she served 6 years as an ordnance officer in South Korea, Fort Drum, NY, and Fort Hood, TX. She is proud to have been an active duty military spouse for over 20 years, and through those years she worked for non-profits and taught as an adjunct mathematics professor. After serving on active duty for 28 years in the US Army, Roz’s husband Dave is now the owner of Kathan Communications, a strategic communications company that helps organizations build coordinated, integrated, and synchronized strategic communication plans. Roz has two children: Tommy, a sophomore at Yale in New Haven who is studying Computer Science, and Emily, a senior at North Thurston High School in Lacey. Tommy continues the family tradition of serving the country by participating in Yale’s Air Force ROTC program.
