For families struggling to help their learning-challenged children, founder and CEO of The Learning Different Company, Jennifer Cummings, has been more than a “tutor of last resort”. Through her hard-won insight and proven learning strategies, Jennifer has been able to teach students, parents and educators the tools needed to empower and unlock the learning potential that transforms learning struggles into learning successes. Jennifer’s innovative strategies come from a lifetime of personal and professional experience and her passion for education reform can be traced back to her own time as a young student within the California public school system. Diagnosed with more than a dozen “learning disabilities” herself, Jennifer was labeled as “unteachable” and by the time she was 15, had been carelessly promoted from grade to grade leaving her angry, errant, and illiterate. Despite those challenges, and thanks to a single intervention and redefining moment, Jennifer was able to unlock her own learning potential and put the stigma of those ill-placed labels behind her. She learned how to read and went on to earn a B.A. in economics from Northeastern University. She started a company or two and, after 20 lucrative years as a successful entrepreneur and marketing strategist, she decided to turn her sights and resources toward serving her deeper calling as an educator. She was accepted to Teach for America, earned a Master of Science in Education from John Hopkins University and spent years working in one of the nation’s most neglected school districts. Along with her fierce dedication to advocacy outside of the classroom, Jennifer’s unique perspective on understanding ‘LD’, ADHD, and other struggling students has enabled her to present at countless workshops and professional development training sessions across the nation. Her methods are practical yet impactful and are intensely focused on showing the world that EVERY child, no matter the label, is 100% smart.
